Introduction to DITA

In this training we’ll cover what is DITA and why would you use it. We’ll discuss about the possibilities provided by DITA and the special things you need to remember when planning your move.

During the training day we’ll cover the following topics and do exercises on them:

  • Different DITA topics and their use
  • DITA maps and bookmaps
  • Reuse and single-sourcing: conref, keyref, conkeyref
  • Metadata and metadata management with DITA subject schemes

The training is held in English, and the training materials are in English.

Target group

The training is suitable for those in the technical communication business who are interested in DITA. This training is specially useful if your company or organisation is thinking about adopting DITA or is already using it, or if you want to improve your professional skills by learning DITA.

You don’t need to know anything about DITA beforehand. It’s good if you know what structured writing is (using SGML, XML, DocBook or some company-proprietary XML format) and are familiar with basic technical communication concepts such as minimalism, reuse, and single sourcing. You can be either a newbie or a veteran, as long as you haven’t worked with DITA before. You need a DITA-aware XML editor, such as oXygen and XMetaL, for the exercises. You must have the editor installed before the training and know its basic use The trainer is going to use oXygen and the screenshots in the training materials will also be taken from DITA files open in oXygen.
